Hi Everyone,
Nothing like coming home... for a few hours...zooming out to Cali for an amazing race in Wine Country...then getting home for a few days before headed out to San Fran (again) for the sfm...
I've been going a million miles per hour... and have been posting most of the July Tour information over at facebook... "The Warrior Tours" is the name of the page over there...
Most of you are facebookers also.. for those that aren't ... drop me a note so I can cut and paste some of the updates together and send them directly to you...
I'll get data up on the WALL soon.. just need some time to play catch up... mean time... I'd love to see people bringing me up to speed on domestic races etc.. by posting more photos and blogs... even short ones....
thanks all, Run Like You Mean It!

What The Warrior Tours Is......

THE WARRIOR TOURS: KEEPING CONNECTIONS OPENAs overseas troops protect our freedom, razor wire and security posts keep out more than the enemy. Confined to a military base, our soldiers battle daily with limited freedom, isolation and distance from their homes and families. From triple-digit heat to the constant throbbing of the sounds of war – whether military exercises or true exchange of fire – physical and mental stress runs high.Enter the Warrior Tours – an opportunity for the men and women who sacrifice so much for our peace of mind to enjoy a bit of their own. We take some of America’s best sporting events to the troops, giving them a chance to connect with home while they enjoy a change of pace from the tensions of active duty. It’s a source of physical and mental release that is as good for their bodies as for their spirits.Overseas EventsA few days before a stateside major event, the Warrior Tours crew and special guests touch down at an overseas military installation, bringing the energy and fanfare of the event to the troops. With plenty of opportunity for celebrity “meet and greets,” lots of “swag”, and the rockin’ good time of a live appearance by bands like CatchPenny, the Armed Forces Entertainers of the Year, it’s a turbo-boost for morale. And, then there is the chance for some friendly competition and de-stressing as the soldiers compete in the base’s own version of the stateside sporting event. We also host interviews, film the race action and record “shoutouts” and dedications from each soldier who has a message for his family, friends, employers and community back home. Stateside ConnectionsThe Warrior Tour crew returns to the states and shares the photos, videos and audio clips with national and local media outlets and through social networking sites. More important, we integrate the media into the stateside major event so that participants and fans alike are reminded to keep their eyes on the prize that’s even bigger than a race victory or personal best: freedom.Putting It All TogetherThe Warrior Tours are all about connections: connecting the troops with home…connecting stateside communities with the faces and personal stories of those who keep them safe…connecting the friends and families of soldiers with a sense of peace and pride that their loved ones are not only okay, but also recognized and respected for their mission of honor…and finally, connecting sporting events that bridge the time and miles until our troops return safely home. The Warrior Tours were established by Robi Powers, America's Voice of Running to showcase events for our soldiers serving around the world. Currently, there are 2 platforms established to support the Troops. The first, "Remote Connection Races" or as the Troops call them "Robi Doubles" ... where Robi as "The Voice" of a Stateside major event... stages a "remote event" for the Troops at a remote Base...then flys directly back to the Stateside event...and shares the video, audio and personal experience with the live Stateside Audience. The Second: Using the most basic form of physical fitness training (running) Powers has created a celebrity showcase tour called "America's Races Salute the Troops" ... a 10 day Tour which involves Olympians, Running Icons and Industry Leaders... traveling to US Bases in the MiddleEast to produce 7 Races on 7Bases in 7Days...with a goal of providing classic US Fanfare, information and education in away that motivates troops to feel great about themselves....and the standard armed forces physical fitness testing program... "We're going to be hosting AFPFT's at bases...with all the Fanfare of the Marine Corps Marathon... Pittsburgh Marathon... from Olympic and Running Icons... to state-of-art timing... to the Armed Forces Entertainers of the Year playing at the pre-night dinners...and then again live on race mornings...." says Powers adding "the goal is to make these warrior runners feel like they are toeing the line at Boston... take their mind to another place on race day... and give them at least one AFPFT that they'll remember for the rest of their lives..." Instead of the traditional "event shirts and medals" being handed out... warriors who compete in the America's Races Salute the Troops...will have their choice of shirts and medals to pick from ... from races all over the United States... "it was just another idea I had... why not let a Marine grab a MCM shirt... or warrior runner from Denver grab a Denver Marathon Shirt..." says Powers "thankfully the response by most of the countries major races has been outstanding...and I personally salute on behalf of my fellow veterans..and current active duty runners... the races listed on our website... they are the races...and supporters who have made this firstever tour happen along with our Celeb Tour Producers Chris and Zach Schauf of Trovata Entertainment."

Robi's May Marathon!

It has all gone by in a blurrrrrrr. With friends Dean, Kristin and reachout to Boston Billy at the Marin County Marathon...on the eve of the Boston Marathon.... I left the warmth and energy of a first time event (Marin County Marathon) and landed in Kuwait... after 2 hrs of sleep and a Camel Ride (don't ask) in the middle of the night... I landed in Baghdad and was whisked over to Sather Air Base... where Madam Secretary of State Clinton was meeting with all the Middle East Ambassadors..... While she had her hands full.. I was busy producing Shoutouts and video coverage of the Dick's Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Spirit Marathon for the Troops.
The players that all came together to make this happen are long listed, but I've got to mention LTC Scott Rainey of Centcom Iraq, Chris and Zach at Trovata Entertainment, Theresa Grogan of the DOD, Lawrence Engermann of DOD North Kuwait , Clayton Bovey of MWR Kuwait and LTC Burt of Centcom Iraq... they all teamed up with LTC Accamando of the PANG and his people LTC Painter, Top Perz and TSgt Cameron to pull this amazing feat off. SMSGT Neville ran a Boston Qualifying Masters time of 3:19:45... along with other great performances by the running warriors of Sather AB who participated in two 2.62 Duty Runs.... a Spirit Relay....and even a Battle Rattle full Kevlar 1 mile race...
I got out of Sather kind of late... and arrived in Kuwiat just in time for CSM Jordan and his team to whisk me through the night to Camp Buerhing (Northern Deployement Base just south of Iraq Border).. so that I could eat...shower...and jump up on the USO/MWR Stage to open up the Indy 500 Festivals Mini Marathon at 0300 hrs ... on Monday... then it was more meet and greets after this race was over... great shoutout filming...picture taking..(special thanks to LTC Kruse, CSM Jordan and Cpt Grant along with others...Eben and his MWR staff etc...) cause we where able to share all of this footage with WISHTV Indy leading up to and including race day.. in Indy...
From the count down to start the race (we had the warriors at Camp Buehring record it for us) to the slideshow that BMG Event Production built for us.. playing on the JumboTron.. to WISHTV's Adam's Live TV segment.... shoutouts looped into music pieces etc..etc.etc... it was all just a blurrr and amazing the amount of connectivity that was created in Indy..... then of course with 3 thousand people still to finish.. I had to blast off the finishline and sprint to the airport with the help of the Indy 500 Festival Committee Staff.. so that I could make my flight to Pittsburgh where we had a similar unrolling of the Warrior Runs scheduled with KDKA TV and others in Pittsburgh... again the connectivity was amazing.. Billy Rodgers spent the whole morning with me doing TV...while Mike Reilly hammered home the message of the troop run over the PA System... in the end... it couldn't have been better... one of my constaint supporters (LTC Accamando- PA 171 Public Affairs Director) ran in the event... and when the event was over.. and I thought we'd done it all... the LTC leans in on me and asks if I've got enough energy left to go to the Pirates Ball Game... I'm like sure Sir..... so off we go... next thing I know I'm in a Pirates Jersey and Ballcap.. walking out onto the field with the stadium announcer giving this huge speach about all that I'd done over the past 8 days... 3 wonderful female singers belt out God Bless America... the JumboTrons are focused in at the end.. and I open up my Pirates Jersey to reveal a USAF sweatshirt that the LTC had given me....the Fans went nuts... standing O for the Troops.. made me cry.. cause I knew right then and there something that LTC Accamando had already figured out...that the folks at the 500 Festival had already known.... that the connectivity of doing this firstever Robi Double Tour.... had worked... it had brought our citizens and citizen soldiers closer together!!!!
So off I zoomed to home.. for a nice 3 day break before heading to Fargo.. this was my first time at Fargo and I was blown away... from the Expo.. to the races...everything is just first class.... again I shared shoutouts..and thankful words from the troops I had been with to the residents, Mayors and Staff members of Fargo and Moorehead.. for all the outstanding work that had gone into keep the two towns "dry" during the flooding this spring... and again.. when the race was over... and the evening turned to a celebration party for the "sandbaggers" I was asked to go up on stage between two great Bands that performed throughout the night at the Fargo Dome... and Mark and Rob's crew at the Fargo Dome .. ran the Kuwiat Mini Marathon Slideshow that BMG had put together....again the people were totally into it.. and when I told them how the troops had told me to make sure they new how much the troops had been thinking of THEM this spring... it just blew them away.. the cheers.. the heart felt pride in being an American... a Human.. could be felt throughout the Fargo Dome....and the 10k plus people inside....
Home for a couple of days... and off to Cleveland... new 5km race on Saturday morning that was held down in the flats.. super fun.. followed by some expo work then Kids event at a new Park.. (out grew the Science Center).... what started off as excellent only got better as Saturday rolled into Sunday... Amy Liss, Bart Yasso were my co-hosts and we just simply had a blast.... yelling and screaming for everyone to come on home.... quick meeting with theWarriorTours Chair of Board Ed Bell, of Gries Financial before jumping on a plane home to Steamboat...
Three days later... (and a couple of cool baseball games by Erik and Robi) and Gretchen and I were headed for Vermont... 21 years old... and maybe one of the best ever... thing i like about Vermont is that while there was a time when some folks thought the way to go was to have the event be a major marathon... what it really has become is just a major happening... it's an experience... it's something families do on Memorial Day Weekend... every year.. period!.. Charlie and Sarah Reinertsen were my co-hosts.....Grant and Super Sounds just nailed the production and feed to WVMT Radio for the live simulcast.. and the runners and their family members all just got into having FUN.. bummer was... that I couldn't hang with Bob and Anita from Granite State (timers).. couldn't go drink all of Scott Carpenters (keybank president) beer .. I had to jump a flight out to LA...
Got into Los Angeles around 11pm.. cab over to the Biltmore (kinda nice hotel downtown) where my MATE.. Rod Dixon was waiting in the room to go over details on the next mornings events... I went to bed with a LA Road Runners Pep Rally at 6am followed by kidsMarathon pre event meeting at 7:30am... followed by 5km race and kidsMarathon races.... Unified/Springfield sponsor messages in my head..... two seconds later the alarms are going off and it's back to it... Happily the LA Road Runners are just pure JOY... starting your day...any day off with these guys will put a smile on your face... Rod and I hustled as best we could over to the kids race.. but it seemed like every two steps my Mate would get pulled aside for a hug.. or hello from someone... (hey I even knew some folks too : ) but in the end.. we were in full production for the LA Marathon 5km and kidsMarathon 1 mile graduation run...
Our special Grand Marshall... was a super cool young man by the name of Hawken Miller... Hawken helps promote a wonderful organization www.cureduchenne.org and without missing a beat Hawken officially started the event with a super loud countdown from 10..... with thousands of kids charging off the line onto the course.. Hawken, his Parents and staff members hussled over to the finishline.. to hang out in the Kids Only zone... I managed to run around and sign a million autographs for the kids... (thank you Binny and FedEx Kinkos Burlington Vermont.. for the autograph stock)... and even managed to catch lunch with some friends in the LA Marathon VIP court... stopped by and hung out with my brothers and sisters at ChronoTrack ... actually caught David Simms eating something during a race... and before I knew it.. I was in a cab headed to the airport...
zoom zoom... landed at 1030pm...got home around midnight....and officially wrapped up my travels for the month of May... Off this coming weekend... and I don't mind that one bit....

Run For A Hero

As Memorial Day Weekend approaches... do all of us at RunnersWall a favor and run a mile for a Hero before the month is out. Everyday as we wake and go about our daily routines... there are so many who are putting themselves in harms way. At the top of the list for me are our Soldiers... doing their duty... following orders... trying to stay alive.. in combat theaters....and training and supportive theaters...
We also have so many others who put others safety and security infront of their own safety... when you really "slow down" and think about it... there are just so many people who have dedicated their lives...their work... to protecting others...
So on this Memorial Day Weekend... join me in running a mile for our Hero's... Our Soldiers, Police, Fire, EMS... Social Workers... Teachers... the list just goes on and on and on....
Thank you to all who serve our Country and Greater World Society.. for the work...and the sacrifice...
Never Forgotten!

US Masters Half Marathon Championchips

[image][image]Melbourne, FL - Well it's all in the history books... Paul Aufdemberge, Redford MI grabs his first National Championship Title.. (and trust me it hasn't sunk in yet... maybe on the flight home to Michigan tonight... or when he looks at the super cool picture frame that they set him up with for winning... and he reads it a couple more times....) Colleen De Reuck, Boulder Colo... takes the Womens' Win.... with Husband Darrin in the House... (Darin got to hook up with one of his Athletes ... live in person (( Lori Kingsley... who along with Husband... Harley John... made the show)...
.. Bill Riley, 72 of Centerville, MA and BAA grabs the 70-74 win... with wife Debbie... not only here today... but God love her.. feeding me a much needed muffin at around 6:15 minutes into the Marathon.... not to mention sharing with me some fun juice on Bill ... that I get to use at a later date... (Bill... you think Joe and Don are to be worried about.. wait till i unload all of Mom's information on the WORLD!!! : ) then Chicken Legs will be the last thing you're thinking about)
... Boston Billy Rodgers missed the win... in his 60-64 age group.. but who really give a SH%T... they guy had a hell of a year last... was doing the whole fight the fight of a lifetime with Cancer gig...and he was back smiling and being just plan wonderful... (I really love this man... and his brother Charlie... for holding down the twosome business so well over the years)... Billy looked great... totally in the zone to the point...where he came over right next to the announcers stage upon returning to the finish... and I almost thought he was going to give me an interview for the fans... before finishing... amazing .. the guy cares so much about the family and friends that come out... the sport... he's a true ambassador for the sport... and sets such a great example... (even if with CocaCola...as opposed to Bil Riley's GatorA mix....)
... at 5pm today here in Melbourne I pity the folks at the Crown Plaza... things are going to get crazy.....Mitch set Billy up with a Suite..and Billy in turn invited everyone over for a post race "get together"... glad I'm on a flight to San Diego...TONIGHT... and have to bow out... cause I'd jump in with both feet... Fitzgerald.. NER style... (OH... did I mention that the post race party was at "Meg O'Malley's"... Fitz... you missed a national get together brother)
Oh what else... my poster child Kim Jones... came down with cramps etc... and had to pull at around 2-4 miles.. (never did hear exactly)... but that sucks..cause I was really hoping for KJ to make the podium... hell she looks 35... but let us not forget that while Colleen, Lori, Terri, Kathy etc.... are all running in the sub 50 crowd... KJ... has made the mark... and will sit 2 classes ahead of Colleen forever.... KJ will be back to claim another National Title...we all just have to wait a tad.... she's so cool !!! even if she hangs out up there in CSU country... if only emotionally... thank GOD she married a super Cool CU stud....at least there's hope for the children..... (you'd never know that I've got one that will go to CSU... while many more are going to go to CU... hell... how can you not love CU... who else has the Nation's number Two Mascot... GO RALPHIE!!!!!!
Mitch, Chris, John, Lindsay.... the crew.. I just hope they all get some rest... Bob Y....ended up doing so much for everyone... he's a rock star... Mitch's wife race right around her Goal... and the kids got to run in with her at the finish...which is always special... Chris... he's gonna get some sleep.... John ran a hell of a race..while his crew timed the crap out of everything...
... Kenny Cohen... played the Nation Anthem on a Sax... only second time in my life I've been involved with a Sax at the start of a race... and he was awesome... so awesome in fact that I wasn't afraid to barrow his PA System... over the one that wasn't working so well.... (it was a little messy in the Audio World Today.. but all good... everyone just dove in and helped out...and the fans felt connected, Educated, Informed... and maybe even Entertained.......which is what it's all about for me.)... footnote... hope Kenny C. get's to go home and sleep today... he didn't get done with a performance till 2am... and came right to the start nearly... kind of reminded me of BlueManGroup in Vegas...doing the same every year... or my co-host out there Robyn Leech... who just never sleeps he's in such high demand...
... check out: www.MelbourneMarathon.com for all..... results....pictures...(I posted some)... press releases etc...
peace...time to catch a plane (a.k.a. horizontal coke can with wings)... for San D and the RunningUSA Conf... gonna be fun to just sit in conferences and chill out with Bart and David...John Elliott etc.. for two days..... I need to chill... this has been a great event.. high energy... but enough is enough...
Peace- Run Like You Mean It!!!!

America’s Races Salute the Troops

Iraq Summer 2009- "Good Morning and Welcome To The San Francisco Marathon...Marine Corps Marathon, Little Rock Marathon, Vermont City Marathon, Chicago Half Marathon, Miami and Atlanta Marathons, Denver Marathon supported 2 miler....here in IRAQ ... we will be starting in 10 minutes...all Runners report to staging... As we continue to listen to CatchPenny live here at the Start/Finish Line ... Welcome and Good Luck Today From America's Races and American's near and far ...."
Welcome to the first ever Department of Defense Entertainment Department presented series of running races at select Bases in Iraq. The theme and associated events will mark the first time that icons from within the running community have traveled over to Iraq, to support a running race Series... in what is planned to be:
" 7 Races - on 7 Bases - in 7 Days "
One of the primary goals of the program is to motivate US Armed Forces Members to continue to maintain the highest standards of cardiovascular fitness, through: Education, Information and Entertainment components presented by some of the biggest names in Running...supported by one of the most popular Armed Forces touring bands - CatchPenny... who will use this running series to continue their goal of performing over 160 performances for our Troops in 2009.
By taking the standard Armed Forces Physical Fitness Test Two Mile running event and applying all the resources available to major Stateside running events our Warriors will experience first hand the latest in timing technology, perform their test run in an environment every bit as “Olympic” in nature as events like the Marine Corps Marathon….the Nations Largest Peoples Marathon. “Running the AFPT 2 miler is one of the most dreaded activities for many troops” says Rob Powers, America’s Voice of Running and Host of the Tour, a retired Armed Forces Sports Program Athlete himself, “ Our goal is to change the way Warriors feel and think about not only the test, but running and cardiovascular conditioning in general....anyone that thinks staying "Fit" in triple digit temp's is easy...let alone in a combat area of operations...needs to re-think the scenerio" he adds.
"We tried to think of a ways to raise the bar for our Warriors and came up with America's Races Salute the Troops... what this means is that when soldiers toe their starting lines on race day... they'll be: wearing a Race Bib from a Major US Race, Receive a Finishers Medal, TShirt etc.. from a major US Race... We've had remote races going on for years... The Army 10 Miler has one of the longest track records of doing this... During this Tour... we've invited all US Races to send over supplies.. so that (hopefully... a Warrior from Chicago...can pick up a Chicago Half Marathon Tech Shirt... Marines can grab a Marine Corps Marathon Shirt, California's can grab a San Francisco Shirt etc...)" says Powers, adding" Additionally, we have several sponsors that will be offering each Warrior Runner's circle of Friends and Family special products and services...that will ship to their doorstep."
Aside from the obvious welfare benefits of physical training the Celebrity Group is hoping that the entire experience will be one of increased Morale both for the Warriors and their Family Members. "If we can help Troops feel better, their families feel better and more connected... we'll feel like we accomplished our goal" says the staff.
The Tour will feature the following staff: Tentative Subject To Change....
Host- Rob Powers, America’s Voice of Running and retired Olympic Teams Coach **
Co-Host- Bart Yasso, Chief Running Officer- RunnersWorld Magazine **
Men’s Special Guest- Major Dan Browne, US Army World Class Athlete Program, Olympian
Men's Special Guest- Frank Shorter, Olympic Gold Medalist, Army Dependent, born on Army Base in Munich Germany
Race Director- Jeff Frost, Director, D.C. National Marathon, Veteran Director of Major Events **
Timing and Stats-Rick and Josh Sterns- SplitSecondTiming, ChronoTrack Dtag System, **
Entertainment- CatchPenny, Armed Forces Entertainers of the Year 2009, playing live during events **
Runner Services- Nearly Every Major Running Race in America is donating supplies ... look for the Running with Warriors Tour on the majority of America's largest races websites in March. A complete list will also be availabe on the Running with Warriors Tour website which will be operational by 01Mar09.
** Confirmed as of 01FEB09

[image]OK...so the loved one(s) have come along...they've followed the leader through Expo Isle after Expo Isle...they've put up with the nervous short wired loved one....who by the eve of a race is wandering around the hotel room....double...no make that triple checking that they have their DTag device securely fastned to their shoes....that their BIB is in exactly the right location...the Hotels wakeup call is set...the cell phone alarm is set....the stupid little alarm/clock radio....is maybe set (you just never know with these throwbacks to the good'ol days....
....and by midnight everyone has settled down...and is sort of sleeping....
.... before you have time to orient yourself...it sounds like Times Square on New Years Eve...as every damn alarm clock is going off at once....in the process of stubbling around in the dark...the nightstand light gets knocked over which takes the crappy little plastic cup with two good swigs worth of water remaining in it....over the edge and splattering onto the grey carpet...to be stepped in...
... dispite it all....the "loved ones" do their part to simply "stay out of the way"...while this great day is launching itself at them....at 4:30 or better known as O'DarkThirty... The loved one(s) watch as their Racer...showers...gets dressed...and nervously tells them that they should just "go back to bed for a while"... as the Racer heads out to the lobby to see if in fact the front desk staff from the night before was accurate in saying that the coffee bar would be open at 5am....
... the Racer returns to the room... moments later to heads on pillows...and all lights turned off... to announce in the most frustrated loud voice: "The Coffee Bar won't be Open till 5:30.... O.K. the sleepyheads are now awake again.... so for the next 20 minutes the Racers has a one way conversation with the sleepyheads...which in essence is just a rant on how Hotels...even this one... which is located 20 blocks away from the Marathon's Start Line... should know better then to mess with a Racers raceday time table....
.... in the end the Racer gets the coffee.... eats the energy bar that came in the signup packet....and blows kisses to the loved ones....who while still in a state of total sleep deprivation... are cheerful and smiling....as the Racer heads off to find the Start Line... with promises to wave to the loved ones at points which have been labeled on a map of the city... to include approx. times that Racer will be running past....
... in the end...the loved ones miss all but one "cheer me on" spot...as noted on the map... but they do manage to hookup with their near PR breaking Racer at the Finishline....in the family reuniting area...
Hey... this is all fiction... granted there's some truth spilled out here and there from the countless stories that I've taken in from runners and their loved ones over the years....
BUT HOW ABOUT SHARING YOUR RACER FAN STORY HERE..... And better yet... How about throwing up live race day coverage....in the form of quick notes...pictures and videos.....
We all get to hear from the Running Racers via chat rooms, forums, blogs... but never before has there been a social site designed with the LOVED ONES in mind...
Here we go... let's hear it Fans... You are the Backbone of every great racer...and race that has ever been run!!!!

We have established the "Race Directors" Group area to give Directors the opportunity to share with runners and their families...outside of the normal zoom zoom traffic that occurs at each of their host race sites.
Our goal is to provide Race Directors with an outlet/inlet portal so that they may share their vast experience with runnersWall and likewise... Runner's can have an opportunity to share their thoughts, concepts and ideas with some of the finest Directors in the World.
